Maya is looking forward to being back at RPC, the church where she grew up, to share her first poetry collection, The Boneheap in the Lion's Den. This collection is based on her experiences working in trauma surgery research in St. Louis, and explores both her own trauma and that of her patients. She received her MS in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University, which helped refine her poetry and inform her emotionally connected approach to medical care. She is currently entering her third year of medical school with the intention of specializing in Emergency Medicine. The event at RPC will include a reading from her book, a question and answer session, and a book signing.
